SOLIDWORKS Cloud Simulation Champions: Brazilian Bicycle Manufacturer Optimizes Designs and Reduces Errors with MODSIM
Join Caloi Product Engineer Leandro Timótio da Silva and Senior Industrial Designer Daniel Galante to learn how SOLIDWORKS and 3DEXPERIENCE Works are helping the company greatly surpass its development goals.
Many thanks to everyone who joined the live webinar for the SOLIDWORKS® Cloud Simulation Champions Series on November 5, 2024. Thank you for your feedback, and please keep it coming. It helps us provide you with webinars that are interesting as well as practical for our valued SOLIDWORKS users.
The MODSIM approach of combining 3D CAD design and simulation as an integral part of the product development cycle enabled the engineering team at Caloi, the top bicycle manufacturer in Brazil, to condense design cycles from two months to two weeks. It also slashed development costs by 50 percent, shortened time to market by 25 percent, and decreased errors, scrap, and rework by 50 percent.
The leading manufacturer of bicycles and related equipment in South America, Caloi strives to fulfill its mission of creating the best riding experience for every type of cyclist while leading the bicycle industry as the preferred business partner across every channel it serves. The November 5th webinar features two key members of Caloi’s product development team who detail how they successfully leverage SOLIDWORKS and 3DEXPERIENCE® Works.
Finding the Right Tools
In 2023, Caloi sought a finite element analysis (FEA) simulation solution to help retain its leadership position. The company needed to reduce lengthy and costly prototyping cycles to shorten design and manufacturing operations to accelerate time to market.
According to Product Engineer Leandro Timótio da Silva, Caloi sought a simulation solution to replace its long reliance on only physical prototyping. “In the past, we spent a lot of time and money on physical tests that were carried out by a specialized company in Portugal as well as in our internal laboratories,” he explains. Once the Caloi engineering team, all experienced SOLIWORKS® users, learned that 3DEXPERIENCE®Works simulation tools were fully compatible with SOLIDWORKS 3D CAD, the decision was a no-brainer.
The company has turbo-charged its development of new products with the MODSIM approach, which unifies modeling and simulation into a single, seamless process. “We reduced our design cycles from two months to two weeks, which frees up our team to design more in the same amount of time, enabling us to optimize our workforce,” adds Timótio da Silva.
Efficiency Up Close and Personal
In addition to compressing design cycles and shortening time to market, implementing 3DEXPERIENCE Works Simulation has helped Caloi reduce its prototyping development, scrap, hardware, and rework costs. The development team now conducts physical tests only as a final validation—a huge change for a company that once conducted 100% of its tests physically.
In the webinar, you will see the story up close and personal and directly from the engineering team. You’ll learn how they achieved such great results, including:
Cutting Development Costs by 50%: Dramatically reducing prototyping, scrap, and rework costs through integrating 3D CAD software with simulation tools.
Accelerating Time to Market by 25%: Streamlining design cycles, which reduces time to market while increasing team productivity.
Reducing Testing Time and Improving Accuracy: Transitioning to digital simulation to reduce design errors by 50%, enabling the team to focus physical testing on final validation only.
Leveraging the Power of MODSIM: Adopting a MODSIM approach that integrates SOLIDWORKS and 3DEXPERIENCE Works for a seamless process that accelerates product design and increases quality.
An additional advantage of using 3DEXPERIENCE Works tools is their seamless integration with SOLIDWORKS. “We have our own library of SOLIDWORKS designs,” explains Timótio da Silva. “We can reuse these designs on countless projects, which saves additional time and money.”
